We are heartbroken by the devastation caused by the recent earthquakes in Turkey and Syria. It is the most powerful earthquake to strike the region in almost a century, and the disaster has killed thousands of people, left thousands more injured, and destroyed thousands of buildings and homes. Several relief groups and NGOs are already on the ground to help victims, search for survivors, and aid in the area’s recovery. If you’re looking for ways to help residents, families, and children impacted by the tragedy, here are some nonprofits you can support:

Earthquake Broken Heart

Center for Disaster Philanthropy

CDP’s Turkey & Syria Earthquake Recovery Fund provides targeted grantmaking that prioritizes needs identified in collaboration with local partners. With an intersectional racial equity lens and an emphasis on medium- and long-term recovery, CDP works to identify gaps in recovery funding to help direct financial and technical support where it is needed most.

GlobalGiving

GlobalGiving is a nonprofit that supports other nonprofits by connecting them to donors and companies. All donations to the Turkey and Syria Earthquake Relief Fund will support Turkey and Syria earthquake relief and recovery efforts. Initially, the fund helps first responders meet survivors’ immediate needs for food, fuel, clean water, medicine, and shelter. As needs evolve, we will prioritize longer-term recovery efforts run by local, vetted organizations in the impacted areas.

Give2Asia

Give2Asia is a trusted partner for international philanthropy. Give2Asia will respond with support for both relief and recovery. Thousands of people require food and shelter. Other anticipated needs include clean water, medicine, health services, and more. We will learn more details in the coming days, including the needs of Syrian refugee populations from the ongoing conflicts there.

ShelterBox

ShelterBox provides emergency shelter, tools, and household supplies to displaced families after disaster, to enable families to begin to rebuild and recover, transforming despair into hope. ShelterBox has experience responding to earthquakes in Turkey before, most notably the 2011 Van earthquake, and also has an ongoing program of work supporting people displaced by conflict in Syria.

World Relief

World Relief is a global Christian humanitarian organization that brings sustainable solutions to the world’s greatest problems – disasters, extreme poverty, violence, oppression, and mass displacement. World Relief partners with local churches and community leaders in the U.S. and abroad to bring hope, healing and transformation to the most vulnerable.

OCCF will continue to work with our partners to identify reputable organizations that are providing support. We will update this page with any new information.
