Orange County Veterans Initiative
The Orange County Community Foundation is committed to embracing service members and integrating them back into civilian life through its Orange County Veterans Initiative.
In February 2015, OCCF released a first-ever study finding that many military veterans coming home to Orange County were significantly underprepared for civilian life. The study examined three chronic issues veterans face, including employment and finances, housing and homelessness, and physical and mental health. Post 9/11 veterans in particular experienced significant barriers to accessing care.
The Orange County Veterans Initiative sought to align philanthropic, public, and private sector resources with timely opportunities to address critical gaps in services to veterans and their families in OC.
By the Numbers (2015-2023):
• $5.7M granted
• 17 nonprofit organizations supported.
• More than 2,000 job placements.
• More than 30,000 veterans and their families served through programming.
