A Message to the Orange County Community

Philanthropy

1goodwill to fellow members of the human race; especiallyactive effort to promote human welfare – Merriam-Webster

OCCF’s mission begins, “to inspire a passion for lifelong philanthropy”— or according to Merriam-Webster, goodwill to fellow members of the human race, through active effort. Philanthropy can also be defined as “love of mankind.”

Philanthropy is love in action.

Our country is in deep pain as we bear witness to the continued effects of systemic racism, and its most recent toll in the loss of the lives whose names we say in memoriam. George Floyd. Breonna Taylor. Ahmaud Arbery. Added to the names of far too many people of color in our nation who came before them.

This moment, in its bruising truth, is a call to action. The Orange County Community Foundation commits to answer the call.

Our Commitment

To Our Donors: We will help you make the difference you yearn to make – in the world, our country, and your community. We welcome the calls and emails arriving daily, voicing your desire to create equity of opportunity, fuel educational and economic progress, support racial healing, and build a more just and civil society. We will learn quickly and well, and accelerate the impact of your giving on every front.

To Our Nonprofit Partners: We will be a trusted and valued resource to help further your work. We will listen to your needs, your priorities, and your dreams for those you serve. We will learn from you, and with you, and work together to build an Orange County that helps ALL our residents to thrive.

To Our Community: We see you, and commit to seeing even more clearly. We hear you, and commit to listening even more deeply. We know that too many of our neighbors face a daily struggle to survive, and that the hope of a better future is a luxury they can’t afford. We will do better at helping build bridges of opportunity, equity and justice.

This is our promise to the Orange County community. Please join us. Learn with us. Hold us accountable. Challenge and inform us. Walk with us.

Nelson Mandela said, “As long as poverty, injustice, and gross inequality persist in our world, none of us can truly rest.”

Let’s get to work.
