The Disneyland Resort in Anaheim and the Orange County Community Foundation have partnered together for 15 years to make Orange County a happier place to live and learn.
The county’s largest employer with approximately 20,000 “cast members”, Disneyland turned to the Orange County Community Foundation to establish an employee giving fund in 1997. The Disney VoluntEARS Community Fund has since granted more than $4.7 million to nonprofit agencies using innovative approaches to address critical community needs.
Cast members can nominate nonprofit agencies of their choice for grant consideration. Among the 2012 recipients: Blind Children’s Learning Center, Down Syndrome Foundation of Orange County, and Pacific Symphony.
Best known for an extensive menu of American fusion fare set to classic rock tunes and one of the world’s largest selections of draft beer, Yard House Restaurants cooked up a big idea with big returns.
Launched in 2009, Round It Up America™ is a one-of-a-kind fundraising program conceived by Yard House CEO Harald Herrmann and vice president of marketing Jennifer Weerheim. Diners are invited to “round up” their check to the nearest dollar, with the difference donated to nonprofits in the communities where restaurants are located. This innovative idea was introduced at all 27 Yard House locations across the country and generated more than $220,000 in charitable funds in less than a year, and a total of $800,000 since launch.
From the very beginning OCCF has been a great partner. They played a critical role in helping us transform an idea that we believed in into something tangible and exciting.``
