Shaakira’s shared passion for being a catalyst for change and a positive impact in the community led her to join OCCF as a Donor Relations & Programs Associate. She is a native New Yorker with a diverse work and volunteer background. Making an impact globally has been a goal since her 2007 trip to Guayaquil, Ecuador where she had the opportunity to promote health awareness and organize outreach programs. The experience sparked her to be a heavily involved undergraduate student at UNC Charlotte as well as a highly engaged student during her Master of Public Administration program at North Carolina State University. She not only served her campus community but took the initiative to extend herself to various organizations including nonprofits that enhanced academic and personal growth for the underprivileged. She has worked with a multitude of organizations including Community Organized Relief Effort in Los Angeles, The V Foundation, The ALS Association North Carolina Chapter, Children’s Defense Fund, United Way and Big Brothers Big Sisters.
