Local Community Reaches Out to Provide a "Hand Up" to Vulnerable Orange County Neighbors $500,000 delivered to 20 local nonprofits
More than three years into the economic crisis, many of our neighbors are still struggling to feed their children, obtain essential medical care and keep a safe roof over their heads. In May, the Orange County Community Foundation launched ReachOut OC 2011 as a response to the continuing impact of the economic crisis on our county’s most vulnerable residents.
The OCCF Board of Governors committed $325,000 to the response and invited local donors and community members to join the effort by making contributions between May 2 and June 15, 2011. OCCF underwrote all program expenses so that 100% of contributions would be applied directly to meeting critical needs.
The ReachOut OC 2011 response focused on extending a “hand up” to vulnerable families and children by delivering support to exemplary Orange County nonprofits providing:
RESPONSE Donors and friends responded to ReachOut OC 2011 with generous and heartfelt support, contributing over $175,000! These contributions were added to the $325,000 committed by the OCCF Board of Governors and a total of $500,000 was directed to local organizations supporting neighbors in need.
GRANTS On June 28, 2011, ReachOut OC grants were awarded to 20 local nonprofit organizations providing a “hand up” to vulnerable Orange County neighbors with food, shelter, access to health care and support services for individuals with disabilities.
