Making Philanthropy A Family Tradition

The house at the end of the block is home to a bustling family with three young children. Like many Orange County parents, Karen and Scott Green dedicate hours each day balancing a busy schedule including school carpools, homework, soccer and volleyball. Also prominent on the activity calendar: giving back.

Among the 2012 grants from the Next Gen Fund: $6,000 for tuition for eight young women in the life-changing Pathways to Independence program and $6,000 to Miocean to support clean up our local shoreline.

The Next Generation: Taking the Lead

The Next Generation Philanthropy group was created and is directed by young professionals and emerging leaders living and working in Orange County. Building on the Orange County Community Foundation's resources, members have established their own approach to supporting our community.

Over the past three years, the Next Gen group has awarded $62,500 in grants to local nonprofits.
For 2012-2013, the group is focused on supporting programs that focus on critical needs of at-risk children in the areas of health and education.
The group meets several times each year to discuss current community needs and have candid conversation with nonprofit leaders

Grant Program

Next Generation group members contribute to the Next Generation Philanthropy Fund and these gifts are matched by the OCCF board. Last year the group awarded $32,000 in grants to six local nonprofits through their collaborative granting process.
