Orange County Real Estate Luncheon

The first annual Orange County Real Estate Luncheon was held in support of Orange County’s 130,000 veterans and generated more than $580,000 from generous sponsors and attendees. Over 450 people attended the April 21 event, initiated by leaders from the Orange County real estate industry in partnership with the Orange County Community Foundation. The Orange County Real Estate Luncheon featured keynote speaker Admiral Mike Mullen, former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and 28th Chief of Naval Operations, who spoke about the challenges that veterans face as they transition to civilian life.

All proceeds from the Orange County Real Estate Luncheon will benefit nonprofit organizations focused on providing health, education and employment services for Orange County veterans and their families. A selection committee of well-respected business leaders, U.S. military veterans and representatives from OCCF will carefully review proposals and grant funds with an anticipated distribution date in fall 2016.

OC Register 4/19/2016: OC Real Estate Industry Raises A Half-Million Dollars For Local Veterans

Orange County Veterans Initiative

OCCF is committed to embracing service members and integrating them back into civilian life through its Orange County Veterans Initiative (OCVI). The program was launched in 2011 and then expanded in 2015 based on new findings from The State of the American Veteran: The Orange County Veterans Study [PDF]. The first-ever comprehensive report on the needs of local veterans, it confirmed that many servicemen and women coming home to Orange County are significantly underprepared for civilian life. In particular, post 9-11 veterans experience significant challenges ranging from not knowing where to find services, to lacking secure employment, to unmet physical and mental health needs.
